Pre-Teens/Teenagers (ages 10-19)

Scoliosis can be frustrating to teenagers and their parents because they often feel like there’s nothing they can do about it.

The Schroth Method helps teens learn a series of breathing, body awareness techniques, stretching, and strengthening exercises to improve spinal muscle balance and posture.

The exercises strengthen the supporting muscles and tissue around the spine and ribcage to improve mobility and maintain a better posture.

Keep in mind that every curve is different, and even when reductions are achieved in 6–12 sessions, treatment needs to continue through the end of growth (skeletal maturity).

While amazing results can be achieved in short periods of time, how much the curve improves is affected by many things including where the curve is located, its size, how "stiff" the curve is, and more.

After learning the Schroth Method, many teenagers feel more self-confident that they can improve their own condition.

An x-ray is not required for adolescents but is highly recommended. It is best to email your x-rays to us before your first appointment. Alternatively, you can bring your imaging in disc format to your first appointment to be uploaded to your chart.

If your child is under 10 years of age, please consult a pediatric physical therapist as modalities differ for younger children.
